MySkwitter ….. for Skype and Twitter users.
Posted on March 25th, 2009 16 comments(sorry , Skwitter was taken … had to rename the app.)
To those folks, who Skype as frequently as they Twitter, here’s good news. MySkwitter, updates the Skype Mood Text with the latest Twitter, so that your contacts on Skype can see what you have twittered
….Here’s the free downloadable MySkwitter (Skype-Extra), based on .NET 2.0 framework. It makes use of Yedda Twitter library .
When run for the first time, the application asks for inputs, to connect to the Twitter account, and saves the configuration parameters to %userprofile%\TweetConfig.txt
One needs to delete TweetConfig.txt file to re-configure the settings.
MySkwitter will be updated ……………….. sooner !!!
Enjoy !!!
++++++++++++++++++++ Updates Version 1.0 +++++++++++++++
* Turns out that “Reload Extra on Skype startup” only works when the Skype application is closed from the tray with “Quit”. MySkwitter does not reload with Skype with a simple logoff and a re-login, without a “Quit”.
* The Extra has been published by Skype officially. Get it from here.

++++++++++++++++++++ Updates Version 2.0 +++++++++++++++
* Version 2.0 release, with Tweet capabilities from Skype, Hyperlink without slashes, and other improvements.
* MySkwitter 2.0 (Gwitter). Download from here.
++++++++++++++++++++ Updates Version 2.2 +++++++++++++++
* Corrected Unicode Display.
* Corrected missing double quoted text.
* MySkwitter 2.2 (Gwitter). Download from here.

Congrats Amit! Will it a try.
2 suggestions:
1. In case you are under no obligation from your University, I would suggest you direct the link from Amit Regmi in Skype Extras page to your blog, rather than to your Uni’s faculty page2. It is a good idea to fill the Skype Extras page with more About and Details for your program. Using the logins you used for publishing the Extra, you can login under the Post Submission section and update useful information about your Extra that you have otherwise placed in your blog. If a user never searches for you online, they never find your blog..and therefore they never see MySwitter information you have posted.
Help the online community promote you, help the bloggers find you, and use the Skype Extras page to inform Skype users about your product. Wish you all the best

Thanks Jameel.
I wasn’t aware of “Post Submission” section for more updates. Thanks for pointing that out.
I have submitted many changes.

Works well.
Also updates the other way around - from the Skype Mood to twitter.
Just what i was looking for.The “I am Here” messages though are a bit of a pain. just one message with something like “Text entered had been updated on skype” would have been enough.

Yes Jonathan !! That will be a nice feature to add. I will try to fix that in the next release.
Thanks.

I am getting an unsolicited popup warning that I “could not connect to Twitter!” It then says to make sure my filename and password are correct and to delete the config file first and finally to reload the configuration. There are instructions to go to your blog for more instructions. Each attempt to simply close the popup by clicking on the “X” in the corner of the box is successful, only for the popup to come back in 5 seconds or so. I’ve no idea how or why this is showing up on my computer because no one in our family even uses Twitter. If you have any suggestions on how we can stop this popup from re-occuring, I would be most grateful.
Thanks
Richard

@tom : That could happen if you provide invalid twitter credentials with the configuration GUI, please reset the configuration and see,
@Moonrs : If you want to remove the application , remove the (MySkwitter) Skype-Extra by going to (Tools->DoMore->OrganizeExtras) after signing into Skype. Then you will be good, and there will not be any popups anymore.

I found an error while having links on twitter, it makes http:// into something like http:\/\/ on Skype, resulting in non-functional links.
-
@JM: yes ! that was the problem with V1.0, Please download V2.0 (link provided in the updates section above). With this new version, your Skype mood (updated from Skype) will also be sent as a post on Twitter.
Enjoy !!

GWitter v2.0 nor does MySkwitter v1.0 work with Vista x64 or Windows 7 x64. The application appears to crash and Windows Error Handling opens. Any ideas as to why this might be?

2 problems using 2.0 of the plugin:
Syncing from Skype to Twitter works but adds a caret (^) to the end of the message.
Syncing from Twitter to Skype is not working; my mood never changes.I’m using Skype 4.1.0.166
Any ideas?Also a feature request- any chance to customize the tweet so it says something other than being from “API”?

@brentpabst: haven’t tested it on x64, as Skype4COM wrapper wasn’t supported in that platform when I wrote the application.
Check this out , https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SPA-420
It probably has a workaround now.@Chris: The caret (^), was a stupid way to avoid an Infinite Loop, that used to happen when u post Tweet through Skype, and It comes back to the Skype mood again from Twitter. Please take it as is. (sorry).
Twitter to Skype mood update always works for me. I use it all the time. and with the same V2.0.
I don’t understand why it works just one way for you. May be reseting the configuration by deleting the file might help. -

Would you support international characters? My status messages in Japanese set in Skype get garbled ON SKYPE. Somehow it is almost correctly reflected on the Twitter end. I said almost because there is that trailing carret dot (\"^.\") that you add at the end.
Please let me know if you ever support international characters.

@Yasuro-san,
Plz, check out the newly updated binary MySkwitter 2.1 from above. It has Unicode support. The caret and dot unfortunately won’t be modified. Sorry.
